It is our mission to provide an early years setting that is as Eco-friendly and sustainable as possible. We have worked hard to create an environment that helps to teach children about the world around us and how to protect it. We have also been mindful of sustainability when setting up our play areas, garden and forest school.

Here are some of the things we currently do to help save the planet:

  • Re-use, Repair & Recycle – We have up-cycled a lot of old furniture that would have been thrown away to create amazing learning areas for the children. We have bought second hand where appropriate and recycle anything that cannot be repaired or used as something new.
  • Green Bottoms – We use an Eco-friendly nappy disposal company called ‘Green Bottoms’. They collect our nappy waste and turn it into bio-fuel. Helping to stop nappies sitting in landfill for hundreds of years…
  • Recycled Bedding – We use blankets made from recycled scraps of fabric.
  • Lunch Times – We provide hot meals that come in re-usable containers to minimise single use plastics. These are both biodegradable so will compost at the end of their lives. Children also learn to drink from glasses instead of plastic cups.
  • Grow your own – We teach children about growing and harvesting vegetables and fruit in our own vegetable patch. They also get involved in cooking and eating the delicious organic produce!
  • Save the bees – We plant insect attracting flowers and the children learn about watering and maintaining them to attract bees. We have also made ‘Bee Hotels’ to give them somewhere to live.
  • Plastic not so Fantastic – We have made a conscious effort to avoid the use of plastics where possible in our resources, decor and display as well as the children’s toys.
  • Paper Free Future – We are working hard to find a secure and sophisticated computer system that will mean we need no more paperwork. This will give parents access to all the information, forms and policies they need. It will also have a separate, confidential area of access for staff.
